The digital age with a traditional twist

My new book We Wish You a Merry Christmas was illustrated digitally. I created it on a computer.

I worked with Photoshop on a Cintq. I often use an ipad2 for sketching.  My favorite programs are Sketchbook, Procreate and Adobe Fresco.

But my real love is the pencil. And that’s where this book started, with my pencil on paper. 

The feel of the pencil on paper is one I just simply cannot replicate on the screen. I know there are covers and different styluses that try to give you the ‘feel’ but pencil does it automatically, and definitely does not have to be charged. As for paper, it’s so thin and so inexpensive. It truly is amazing.

Creating the book digitally was a wonderful learning experience. But my paints and pencils don’t have to be worried. There is still lots ahead for all of them, separately or together.
